Info Reveals Privacy Policy

You don’t need an account to read anything on Info Reveals. That shapes most of what follows because we simply hold very little about you. This page explains what we do have and where it comes from and what happens to it afterwards. By using inforeveals.com you agree to everything below.

Who Runs This Site

InfoReveals is an independent publication. We write about business and lifestyle and fashion and fitness and travel for readers anywhere in the world. When this page says “we” or “us” it means the small team behind the site. Questions about any of it can go to USA.

What We Collect

Think of it as two buckets. One holds what you hand us. The other holds what your browser hands us without being asked.

What you hand us. Send an email and we get your name and address and whatever you chose to write. Leave a comment and we may get your name and email and website if you fill those boxes in. Send a guest post pitch or a collaboration idea and we get whatever is inside it. None of this is compulsory. We never ask you to sign up.

What your browser hands us. Your IP address. Whether you’re on a phone or a laptop and which browser it runs. Which posts you open and whether you stay ten seconds or ten minutes. The site that sent you our way. A rough location worked out from your IP. It comes from Google Analytics and ordinary server logs. We read it as totals so we can see which posts get read and which get ignored. We don’t use it to work out who you are.

Why We Use It

Your information goes to these jobs and nothing else:

  • Answering your messages and comments
  • Finding out which articles help readers and fixing the ones that don’t
  • Reading traffic patterns as a whole
  • Sending newsletters to people who asked for them and nobody else
  • Going through guest posts and partnership and advertising enquiries
  • Keeping the site secure and blocking fraud or break-ins

We don’t sell personal information. We don’t pass it to other companies so they can market to you.

Cookies

Open a news site a second time and it greets you by name. Tick “remember me” on a login box and the tick is still there tomorrow. A cookie sits behind both. It’s a short text file that lands on your phone or laptop when a page loads and your browser hands it back on your next visit.

We use three kinds. A few are essential. Block them and you’d find menus that won’t open and pages that only half load. Those stay active for as long as you’re on the site. Others are analytics cookies. They count visits and tell us which posts people read to the end and which they drop after a paragraph. We only ever see anonymous totals. The third kind comes from advertisers. Outside networks such as Google AdSense may drop their own cookie to track which sites you visit and then pick ads around that. Spend ten minutes comparing hiking boots and the next week of ads will be full of tents and trail shoes.

You can say no to cookies. Every major browser has a privacy menu where you can block them or delete what’s already saved. Some can clear everything the moment you close the window. Go strict and the web gets clunkier. Sites forget you on every visit and you retype your details and your language or dark mode setting resets. Chrome and Safari and Firefox and Edge each hide the controls in a slightly different spot so check their help pages.

Google Analytics

We run Google Analytics to see which pages draw readers and how long people stay and what they do while they’re here. That tells us what to improve.

The data travels to Google and sits on servers that may be outside your country. Google may share it with others if the law demands it or when they handle it on Google’s behalf.

Prefer to stay out of our numbers completely? Google publishes a small add-on for your browser that stops Analytics from recording your visit. Get it at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Google’s own privacy policy explains the rest.

Ads From Google AdSense and Others

Some pages carry ads. Most come through Google AdSense or a network that works the same way. To pick them the network leaves its own cookies and notes which sites you visit. That’s why an ad can seem to know what you searched for yesterday.

Those networks never get your name or home address or email or phone number from us. The only way they’d have them is if you typed them into one of their own sites. More detail sits at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

Tired of ads that follow your interests around? You can switch that off at optout.aboutads.info or at optout.networkadvertising.org. You’ll still see ads. They just won’t be built around your habits.

Affiliate Links and Sponsored Posts

Some posts carry affiliate links. Buy through one and we may earn a small commission from the seller. It costs you nothing extra and it helps pay for a free site. We try to flag these links where they appear and we only point to things we think readers can use.

Sponsored posts exist too. They follow the same editorial standards as everything else and we label them.

Other People's Websites

We link out to other sites now and then. The moment you click through you’ve left our property and this policy stops applying. We don’t control what those sites collect or how they handle it. Read their privacy policy before you type anything personal into them.

Children

InfoReveals isn’t aimed at anyone under 13 and we don’t knowingly collect information from children. If we find out that we have we’ll delete it straight away. Parents or guardians who think a child sent us something without permission should write to [your email address] and we’ll deal with it fast.

How We Protect Your Data

Personal details reach us through secure email. Inside the team only the people who need to handle a message can open it and everyone else stays out. We also look over our own habits from time to time to see what could be tightened.

Still no method of sending or storing data online is completely safe. We do what we can and we can’t promise more than that. If you think your contact with us may have been compromised tell us at once.

Your Rights

Where you live decides which privacy laws cover you and some of them give you real say over your data. You may be able to ask us for a copy of what we hold. You may be able to get a mistake fixed or have something deleted. You may be able to take back a consent you gave earlier or tell us to stop using your data for a particular purpose.

Write to [your email address] and tell us what you’re after in plain words. A short message is fine. We’ll answer within a reasonable time and follow the law that applies to you. Some requests can’t be fully met. We may be legally required to keep certain records or your request may affect somebody else’s rights.

How Long We Keep Things

We hold on to personal details only while they’re still useful for the reason you gave them to us or while the law tells us to. Once that’s over we erase them securely.

Emails stay while a conversation is open and for a while afterwards as a record. Comments stay as long as the post they belong to stays online.

Readers Abroad

Our site can be opened from anywhere. If you’re reading from outside the country where our servers sit your information may travel there and be processed under data laws that differ from your own. Using the site means you accept that transfer. We handle your data by this policy wherever it ends up.

When This Policy Changes

We may update this page whenever we need to. The date at the top will change when we do. Look it over now and then. If you keep using InfoReveals after an update you accept the new version. If you don’t agree with it then stop using the site.
