ToggleInfo Reveals Cookie Policy
This page covers the cookies on inforeveals.com. Which ones we use and who sets them and how long they hang around and how to get rid of them. It works alongside our Privacy Policy so read the two together.
What a Cookie Is
When you open a page your browser can save a small text file from that site. That file is a cookie. Come back tomorrow and your browser quietly returns it to the site. The site reads it and knows you’ve been here before. That’s how a comment form remembers your name and how a page counts you once and not five times. A cookie is only text. It can’t run anything on your device and it can’t open your files.
Why We Bother With Them
Plain answer. We want to know what works. A site like ours lives or dies on whether people finish the posts they open and cookies help us see that. They also help pay the bills because ads and affiliate links keep InfoReveals free to read. Without some cookies we’d be guessing about everything.
Cookies We Use
Essential ones. They keep the site working. Menus open and pages load properly because of them. You can’t switch them off while you’re here.
Analytics ones. They come from Google Analytics. They tell us which posts get read to the end and which get dropped after a paragraph and roughly where readers come from. We only see anonymous totals.
Advertising ones. A few pages here carry ads and those ads arrive through Google AdSense or a network that works like it. The network plants its own cookie in your browser and keeps a loose list of the sites you’ve browsed. Then it chooses ads that fit that list. That’s the cookie behind a pair of boots you looked at once and keep seeing everywhere.
Comment ones. Leave a comment and your browser may save the name and email and website you typed. The point is to save you retyping them next time. That’s all they do.
Cookies From Other Companies
Not every cookie on the site comes from us. Google and the ad networks set theirs themselves and we have no control over what they store or how they use it. The same goes for anything embedded in a post such as a video or a social media button. Those pass cookies along from the platform they belong to. Read that company’s own policy if you want the full picture.
How Long They Last
It varies a lot. Session cookies vanish the moment you close your browser. Others sit on your device until a date set by whoever made them. Analytics cookies often last a year or more. Advertising cookies depend on the network and some stay for months. Nothing stops you from deleting any of them earlier.
Your Say Before They're Set
If you’re in a place where the law requires it you’ll see a banner when you arrive. It asks whether you’re fine with non-essential cookies. Click no and those cookies stay off. Changed your mind later? Clear this site’s cookies in your browser and reload. The banner comes back and you can answer again.
Taking Control
You have a few options and none of them cost anything.
- Open your browser’s privacy or cookies page. There you can block cookies or delete the ones already saved. Some browsers can clear everything each time you close them.
- Install Google’s opt-out add-on for Analytics from tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
- Turn off interest-based ads at optout.aboutads.info or optout.networkadvertising.org. You’ll still see ads. They just won’t follow your habits.
On a phone the same controls live in your browser’s settings and sometimes in the phone’s own privacy menu. Block everything and some things get awkward. A cart might empty itself or a site might forget your language or ask for your password on every visit. Cookies set before you made changes may stay until you delete them.
Cookies and Your Personal Details
Most cookies hold a random code and nothing else. They don’t carry your name or your email. The exception is the comment cookie because you typed those details yourself. Whatever personal information reaches us another way is handled under our Privacy Policy.
Changes to This Page
If our cookies change we’ll update this page and the date at the top. Look back now and then. Keep using InfoReveals after an update and you accept the new version.
